I recently updated my Ubuntu Studio 24.04.4 with snap through Discover and immediately suffered the dreaded ‘kioslave5 closed unexpectedly’ spam message. It basically completely fills my top screen so that my system becomes unusable.
I am primarily a photographer, and opening GThumb, Dolphin, or any other program that is image centric, as well as restarting, results in the same system wide issue. The entire OS is now unusable for me.
I have attempted to troubleshoot with the clearing of the Baloo folder, but nothing is indexed there. I have shut down any network sharing, to no avail.
The issue perhaps is thumbnail related, but until the update this morning this has never occurred.
I attempted to use my USB-C and A ports to transfer files from my Camera’s disk to the comp but same issue.
Am I the only one suffering this, do I need to reinstall the operating system, and the terabytes of images and set up the system again or is it just a bug that will be fixed.
I read that thread before posting and attempted that solution with absolutely no effect. Nothing is indexed in the folder, and this did nothing to solve the issue. Thank you for posting though.
I have to reiterate, my system as a photographic or visual studio is now completely unusable. I cannot open GThumb, GIMP, Rawtherapee, Darktable, G’Mic, Gwenview, or any other visual program at all without being spammed with this issue, making the use of such programs impossible as all the buttons and controls are now being interfered with by the spamming of this issue, not to mention my screen.
