My name is Michael and I live in the rural township of Norsewood surrounded by dairy and sheep farms. Not much tech-wise happens out here but I am lucky to have a work-from-home job as a Systems and Networks Engineer at an ISP.
I am also lucky, despite living rural, I have been able to obtain - at a cost - 1Gbps fibre connectivity to the ISP I work for. So no slow lane or copper connection here ![]()
I am new to Ubuntu after coming from years of working with Slackware since the 1990’s. And I must say, I am already sold on the much easier updates and wider selection of packages without having to spend my life compiling stuff.
I have already gone head-first into this and deployed several Ubuntu servers at the ISP and have been migrating services across to these.
Its my early ambition to become a regular contributor to this community. For now I will probably be mostly asking the questions about Ubuntu but anything general server or networking related I will try and help.
Please be aware I rarely engage one-on-one outside of paid work so if you have something you feel I can contribute to and you are not intending to buy my time, feel free to tag me in a public post. This way the community gets to benefit from any contribution I make.
While a typical ’geek’ in some ways I also enjoy my outdoor pursuits away from the screen. These include hiking, hunting, and shooting. We are blessed in this area to have easy access to some of the best of these in our backyard.
I look forward to much engagement ![]()
