Update to kernel 7.0.*** fails because broadcom-sta-dkms fails to compile. This has happened before with some 6.0.*** kernels. There is an update available for the broadcom driver 6.30.223.271-23ubuntu1.3 in noble-proposed, will this be automatically goes to noble or noble-updates or can I do an one-time manual install of this driver by enabling noble-proposed in Software&Updates ? Many thanks!
You could enable noble-proposed just to install broadcom-sta-dkms and see if it works with 7.0, if it does fail, see Bug #2161038 “broadcom-sta-dkms fails to build with kernel 7.0 H...” : Bugs : broadcom-sta package : Ubuntu as the fix in the bug report works with broadcom-sta-dkms version 6.30.223.271-23ubuntu1.2 with 7.0
Edit: the newer version 6.30.223.271-23ubuntu1.3 compiles fine with the 7.0.0-30 kernel
$release-proposed is always a testing ground for automated testing …
If it does not fail it will eventually move to $release-updates …
If you decide to pull from -proposed you should keep this in mind (things failing is rare but it happens) and if you want to speed it up for others you should put your findings “works well/doesn’t work/etc” into the related bug report, that might speed up the transition from -proposed to -updates…
