This is Junsang Moon, and I am writing to apply for Ubuntu Membership.

Contributions

I first became involved with the Ubuntu community through UbuCon Asia 2022, which was a pivotal moment for me. After participating in the event, I joined the Ubuntu Korea LoCo shortly thereafter and began contributing actively.

Since then, I have been serving as an Organizer and Representative of the Ubuntu Korea LoCo, a role I am expected to continue through 2027. My primary focus has been strengthening the local community structure and ensuring sustainable growth.

UbuCon Korea

Since the beginning of UbuCon Korea in 2023, I have been involved in organizing the event from its early stages. My contributions include planning, coordination, infrastructure preparation, and operational support to ensure the event runs smoothly and continues to grow as a stable annual community conference.

Community Infrastructure & Documentation

I have contributed to:

  • Community moderation on the Ubuntu Korea forum

  • Drafting internal operational documentation for Ubuntu Community Korea organizers

  • Supporting improvements to community governance structure

I am currently working on documenting internal workflows and governance practices to make it easier for future contributors to participate and sustain the LoCo.

Translation & Localization

I have also contributed to translation efforts within the Ubuntu ecosystem, helping improve accessibility for Korean-speaking users.

Community Leadership

As the current Representative of Ubuntu Korea LoCo, I focus on:

  • Maintaining healthy communication within the community

  • Encouraging new contributors to participate

  • Coordinating organizers and volunteers

  • Supporting long-term sustainability of our events and infrastructure

My goal is not only to maintain what already exists but to expand and strengthen Ubuntu’s presence in Korea and Asia.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, I aim to:

  • Expand Ubuntu Korea LoCo regionally (e.g., Pohang, Busan, Daejeon, and other cities)

  • Strengthen collaboration across Asian Ubuntu communities

  • Initiate a structured documentation (Wiki) project for the Korean community

  • Improve onboarding materials for new contributors

  • Build stronger bridges between local and global Ubuntu communities

I am committed to contributing to Ubuntu not only at the local level but also as part of the broader global ecosystem.

It’s good to see Junsang is applying for the membership :slight_smile:

His sustained contributions to Korean LoCo since 2022 have droved many new activities over past number of years. His notable contributions would be leading UbuCon Korea team multiple times, LoCoLoCo program (expending gatherings to more diverse regions in Korea - other then Seoul and capital area), new partnerships with local governments and sponsors and more.

As he extended his Korean LoCo representative term this year, I’ll be looking forward to see his future contributions to Korean LoCo and broader Ubuntu Community :slight_smile:

Since 2022, he has led the UbuCon Korea team within the Ubuntu Korea LoCo team, and from 2023 to the present, he has served as its representative, making significant contributions to the Korean LoCo community. I am happy to endorse Junsang’s application for membership.

Junsang has been an active member of the Ubuntu Korean LoCo Team since 2022.
Since 2023, as the representative of the Korean community, he has not only successfully hosted UbuCon Korea but also worked to vitalize regional communities outside the capital area, leading to his term being extended to 2026.

Based on his past performance, I am confident that he will continue to make many great contributions in the future.
