What I’ve Tried:

  • checked internet connection
  • tried updating repository information with sudo apt clean -y sudo apt update -y gives me 403 Forbidden
  • some stuff i forgot because it has been a week

not confident in my ability to manually fix them on my own

should i just do a clean install or is it worth it to try and fix this?

This seems to be a server side problem, nothing anyone can do anything about here on the forum, you’d have to contact the owner of the mirror …

(trying to open http://archive.ubuntu.csg.uzh.ch/ubuntu/ in a browser gets the same 403 permission error, so there is some mis-configuration of the http server at archive.ubuntu.csg.uzh.ch)

I’d just switch to another mirror for the moment …

I agree with @ogra that you should switch to a different mirror.

Then run sudo apt update and report back if there are errors.

okay, so the last link is unnecessarily redefining stuff .

Is this list to check if there was a previous upgrade mess? (feel free to ignore my digital mumbling to myself)

A few observations:-

  • Mixed version sources i.e. references to jammy, bionic and xenial
  • Possibly mixed version unsupported sources and/or PPAs
  • mark-pcnetspec-ubuntu-conky-manager-pm9-bionic.list.distUpgrade
    mark-pcnetspec was the main developer for Peppermint OS and, sadly, passed away in 2020. This repo, regrettably, must be considered redundant now
  • Other repos may well be inactive now

In your position, I would temporarily disable all repositories except main, universe, multiverse and restricted repos for jammy 22.04.
Use a known, working mirror.

Then run

sudo apt update

sudo apt upgrade

If only using the 4 jammy repositories fails, then you have the option to re-install.
Always, a reliable solution.

Sad to hear about mark.

I tried to disable the other repositories but I was very tired and must have made some mistake, as my system did not boot anymore. I had a few attempts to recover it before I decided to just clean install. All worked well from there and backup has restored perfectly. Thank you all for helping :slight_smile:
