Issue with Nautilus (graphical corruption) after upgrading software manually

seems trying to manually update the 15 ‘kept back’ packages (see list at bottom) only took two steps to trash system:

> ~/Desktop$ sudo apt install gir1.2-polkit-1.0

This one above killed the hibernate button before and after rebooting ~ nautilus OK after reboot… and only 9 packages held back afterwards, so, next did…

> ~/Desktop$ sudo apt install libegl-mesa0

The one above broke nautilus even before rebooting… and the held back packages went to zero… lots of other things got broke too like some apps blink/freeze/crash including the ubuntu settings window… major corruption!!!

BUT, software updater came up w/o the usual ‘Partial Upgrade’ or ‘Continue’ options - just the list came up to delete unused headers…

Had to restore system using G4L lzop image made a few days ago - would be nice to just remove/disable/hold/uninstall/etc. these 15 held back packages so this very dangerous partial upgrade option on software updater would just go away

~/Desktop$ apt list --upgradable

seems the six packages are the ones with:
noble-security 124 (removed hibernate button)

and the nine remaining packages are the ones with
noble-security 25.2.8 (corrupted nautilus, etc.)

hope this can be a clue to what packages are ‘broken’ (or that get broken?)

We have discussed this issue with the OP via PM.

It’s a Frankensystem.

The OP seems unable to provide enough information to identify how they created the Frankensystem. It happens.

They are fully aware of their options, further discussion in this topic serves no helpful purpose.
