Is it possible to use old Unity (Desktop) on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Btw, it’s also possible to get the old Unity running on 24.04

@ncz

You replied on a thread with a question that didn’t relate to a purpose of that thread, thus I’ve moved it here.

I don’t know what you mean by old Unity, as the Ubuntu Unity team have been using the Unity 7 desktop, which is the traditional Unity desktop.

Whilst ubports and Lomiri are using the newer Unity 8 (Qt based) desktop, Ubuntu Unity are still using the traditional Unity 7 desktop.

Are you asking about the theme? (sorry I know little about theme changes myself).

With old Unity he means the old Dash. On Unity 7.7 the Dash was re-designed in the style that Lomiri (Unity8) uses.

It wasn’t a question. Since the future of Unity is uncertain I wanted to inform other people it is possible to get the Unity for Ubuntu 20.04 running on Ubuntu 24.04

Your reply was offtopic and irrelevant in the other topic which is only meant for recruiting people to join our team who are serious, dedicated and commited to help with the development and bug fixing. That’s why it was split into a separate topic.

Unity itself is still available from the Ubuntu repo’s to install without any issues on 24.04, so that won’t be a problem. The dash may be modernized but it’s still the same old Unity.

The future of Unity isn’t uncertain once it gets fixed, assured is that Ubuntu Unity will continue and we’re working on that.
