HI @tskng Welcome to the Ubuntu community. Thank you for the awesome feedback in what you expect from this feature. This will be a great help to the developers.
I am a research and development engineer and I am very optimistic about this project. I hope to join the development of the myna project, and I have already followed it: GitHub - canonical/myna: Myna is a lightweight speech-to-text application for Ubuntu Desktop. · GitHub
Thank you @tskng for your feedback.

We’ve softly decided not to implement wake-words in the first version of Myna, but it’s not out of scope for a follow-up. It is a good point though that not everyone will be comfortable physically holding a button down, so we’ll keep this in mind.

That’s interesting, the initial feedback we got on UX was that short-session dictation would be the most common use-case (e.g. utterances of 30s and less are likely going to be the most common). Longer dictation sessions will indeed be uncomfortable with push-to-talk, and more expensive to handle with some models. I hope we’ll have bandwidth to consider this additional use-case, maybe not in the first version, though.
By now, Handy is working really well on Ubuntu 26.04.
Hope Myna could do the same, or better.
Veering a bit off topic now - let us keep the focus on supporting Myna.
Thanks.
