On the old Ubuntu Forums, there were categories such as Virtualisation, Multimedia Software, and so forth.
There don’t seem to be similar categories here.
Today, I was wanting to ask for some help with using ffmpeg, but I don’t know where to post it.
Am I missing something? Or is it no longer appropriate for this forum?
Hi @paddylandau - we have one big Support and Help category here. I’d recommend looking at Welcome To Support And Help and let us know what’s missing, if you don’t mind.

When you open a new topic in the category, next to the category name there is a pulldown that allows you to define additional tags … IIRC there is something with “audio and video” in there that your ffmpeg question would fit I guess…
I would suggest Support and Help and choose audio-and-video as a tag.

It took me a bit of time also when I moved over.
However, once you get used to it and to using the Advanced Search feature I think you will find this to be a powerful experience.
I know it has been for me and I am learning so much here.
I didn’t realize you were an old forum member! You seem so right at home here, I never would expect it. I guess that’s a testament to what you said!
I always kind of thought of the forum as the dusty old corner of Ubuntu. I think perhaps that’s because my focus has nearly always been on Lubuntu and we really never used it at all. All of our communications were really on mailing lists and IRC. This was probably to our own detriment, to be fair. AskUbuntu and especially our own Discourse really opened things up to a wider audience and with much better organization.
