HP laptop with MIPI camera

After no success getting my laptop camera working (24.04) I installed 26.06. But still no luck. Is there any progress on this issue?

Does the laptop have a make and model?
What is the output of
lsusb

There are quite a few threads here dealing with this issue, some solved some not.

My laptop is HP Spectre x360 16-f0xxx

LSUSB shows 4 root hubs, Synaptics touch pad, Intel bluetooth.

I have tried many things above my knowledge level from other threads and AI, but to no avail.

My question is basically whether it is possible or not, or should I just stick with USB cam and wait till later versions of Ubuntu sort it out.

Thanks

I found this but haven’t tried it. There’s a list of deps and a git clone command or two. Could get messy :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Thank you. The length and complexity of this confirms my experience this is not a straightforward fix.

Of note - I tried Gemini AI, eventually going round in circles whilst convinced I didn’t appreciate the ON/OFF camera switch function.

I tried ChatGPT which more reasonably concluded I should either use Windows or a USB camera.

With so much change and clog into my system I have decided to do a fresh Ubuntu install and a USB camera.

Thank you.

The length and complexity of this aligns with my experience, and the conclusion it is not a straightforward fix.

I tried AI. Gemini eventually went in a loop of recommendations already tried whilst deeply concerned I failed to understand the camera on/off switch F10. ChatGPT fatigued and eventually recommended either Windows or a USB camera, after many ‘smoking gun’ insights.

My system was very modified and clogged. I chose to reinstall and use a USB camera for now.
