How to stay with Nvidia 470 driver with ubuntu 24.04?

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
XFCE

Problem Description:

Due to EOL, I chose to stay with 6.8.0-79-generic kernel to stray with nvidia drivers (for performance).
But there is many update proposed recently with ubuntu 24.04 :

I was expecting someone more knowledgable or more opinionated than I to quickly answer the question. But it did not happen.

You are being invited to upgrade Linux kernel 6.8.0-106 to Linux kernel 6.8.0-124.

I would go into more detail perhaps, if OP were to edit the lists, so they aren’t just one long line; something ate the line breaks (newline character).

Option 1 point 2 is seriously wrong and will result in more support requests here in the forum when people following it end up with messed up kernel updates…

One should never ever touch things like linux-image-generic or linux-headers-generic, they are lower level packages managed by the top level linux-generic meta package, if that package is missing (because you installed the above two manually) updates will go out of sync …

If you find such blog posts it would be good to notify the author about the mistake to prevent breakage for users (and extra work for community support)
