Help configuring Ubuntu Server

I’m installing 20.04 LTS Server, then installing LibreTime (AirTime) 4.x to test the Install, setup and Configure via the documentation found on Ubuntu and LibreTimes websites. I am moving from Windows 10, to Linux as none of my Computers I have pass the Windows Health Check to run Windows 11. As I’ve been a Internet Broadcaster for the last 22 years. And the Software I use to do my Shows is SAM Broadcaster Pro of which I have $450 dollars invested in. $300 for the Purchase in 2008, and then another $149 dollars for the update so it would work with Windows 10. And my partner in our radio station just upgraded to Windows 11 and had to buy the Upgrade for SAM as well. I’m not buying a new computer just so I can do my show. So I have to learn Wine or Bottles to use that Windows Only Program. Haven’t found a SAM Broadcaster time program on Linux yet. Open for suggestions… Thanks

Hi @echo2262,

That was a very old topic, so I split your post into its own topic (which you’re more than welcome to post, as opposed to piggybacking on something else).

Thanks!

Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse :slightly_smiling_face:

20.04 is no longer supported unless you have ESM.

See here for more.

Please consider installing one of the more recent LTS versions, either 22.04 or 24.04.

We only provide support here for those versions, not EOL releases.

Know nothing about Internet Broadcasting.

But Google search showed several apps.
linux for internet broadcast
OBS Studio: A powerful and popular open-source software for live video broadcasting and recording, available for Linux.
Restreamer: A feature-rich application for live streaming to your own website or platforms like YouTube
SMPlayer: A versatile media player

SHOUTcast, Icecast, Clementine

In comparison of Windows tools to Linux tools, some are better in Windows, some better in Linux. But issue often is different learning is required to convert. Linux tools will not work the same as Linux.

I understand, the Programs you googled are for Video/Audio. I run a Internet Radio Station. Our Replay Server that we pay for runs on Linux. CentOS, Debian, AlmaLinux 9. As for Broadcasting Software Mixxx, Butt are a freaking joke, and are not anywhere close to the SAM Broadcaster Pro I used on Windows 10.

And yes Sir, I know it’s out dated Software, but that is what LibreTime says to run. On their Website. As I’m jumping from the Pan into the Fire. And I’m just testing and learning how the software is configured. I’m sure the software will as to be updated as I work with it. This Server will be Private (local) Only. I’ll be the only one that will be connecting to it via my hardware. I’m using it as a teaching tool for me. And will report any issues I my get to who ever wants to know.

Yeah it seems like a thing here… Most of the posts I found are 9 years old. So it was a thing and now it’s not. I apologize for posting in the wrong area. Like Linux itself information is every where but where you’d think it would be. I’m new here and learning linux on the fly. When I first used linux it was command line only and that was for a Job I had, to talk to the UNIX Box we had to Compile all the processes ran earlier.

An online search for linxu alternatives to SAM broadcaster pro turns up a number of results and it shows up at the wine site. Never used any so I have no idea how they would compare.

If you do look at Icecast, be sure to also look at IceS as the complementary “content generation” utility.

You might also want to visit the “Ask Ubuntu” site and enter the search for

broadcast audio stream

You might also want to consider raising the discussion in the “Sound Design” forum on the StackExchange site.
