Help and Support Slideshow Screen Suggestion (Installing Ubuntu)

Now that Ubuntu Forums is about to be merged with Discourse, perhaps the developers/Canonical might want to consider giving Discourse more prominence on the Help and Support slideshow screen we see during installs.

Currently, Ask Ubuntu is mentioned first and then Discourse.

What do others think about this?

I absolutely think that the Help and Support forum on this Discourse should be listed first. The average everyday user will get better help here imo.

I would agree. AskUbuntu only wants to answer the queries that fit its question-and-answer model and “votes to close” others. Which is their choice, but it isn’t a very pleasant experience for new users. I think we are more welcoming than that.

I’m not clear about where you are talking about. Perhaps a screenshot or URL edited into the first post might help.

It is likely that folks you wish to persuade are the Canonical Web Team, who have a large presence here on Discourse. Folks are free to look up what they do and the reasons they do it.

We (or at least I) are talking about the Slide Show that runs during installation. There’s a slide which tells people where to get help, at the end, I think. I might be able to do a screenshot from a VM, but not for a few hours, so if anyone else wants to grab one, go for it.

Ah, I completely misunderstood. Apologies.
Desktop team or Installer team, not Web team

@ian-weisser I edited the title and post for clarity.

How would one approach the desktop or installer team with this suggestion?

Were it me, I would start by searching Discourse for the term “slideshow.” There are topics here that will reveal how slideshows have been forked or changed or maintained in the past, why, by whom: The experienced people to direct questions to. Others might handle it differently.

Avoid: The most common mistakes people make with suggestions in Ubuntu Discourse are…

  • Lack of research (invalid assumptions or dismiss previous hard work as worthless)
  • Don’t want to help do the work (fire-and-forget)

Great Idea but I would add to that 1st and last slide… put Ask Ubuntu in the middle of the slide show. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Most folks go and get coffee or something in the middle of the install…
yes I’m sorry I have a warped sense of humor

@sgt-mike I am kind of boring and either watch the slideshow or now that the latest installers have the toggle to view the logs, I sit and watch that. Oh well…everyone has their own idea of fun.
I have been very busy at work recently but I hope to follow up on this suggestion in the correct place soon.

Appreciate the feedback.

Good idea! The installer is actually found here on this GitHub repo. If someone wants to create an issue there with a suggestion to update the slideshow, I think the Desktop team would appreciate it.

@aaronprisk Thank you! I was trying to decide where the best place would be to post a suggestion.
Now I have the solution, much appreciated.
