Hello to old and new acquaintances

I am a migrator from Ubuntu Forums (since 2006); been a *buntu user since Breezy Badger when I installed it on my first homebuilt computer. My home is in Hanover, Pennsylvania, USA. I have five computers, four with Xubuntu 22.04.5, the fifth has Xubuntu 24.04.1.
I try to help when I can.
Have a nice day, or evening, Hugh

Hello him610, glad you are here, its the community that makes Ubuntu great and not the platform the forum runs on.

So very true.
Some message me and ask about it, I tell them that very same statement.

Some just are just hesitant over change, embrace it make it wonderful.

I don’t know if it will ever match the activity of the Ubuntu Forum way-back-when, but I hope this new home will breathe some new life into the community conversations!

Yikes, didn’t realize I joined the Ubuntu Forums back in October 2005!

It is good timing because even though I have drifted away from Linux lately, I still have that yearning for the community and Ubuntu has had community unlike anywhere else I have seen.

So “Hi” everybody! Hoping for some good conversations when the migration is complete (and I can start posting). (wow, half of my emoji are broken images. Oh well, will get fixed in time I am sure)

Long time no see, we are glad you are here, these are exciting times and I truly believe the support section will pick up and being part of the wider community is a great opportunity for everyone.

Hello all,

I really didn’t post much on the old forums mainly because I keep it pretty simple and usually don’t screw things up once I get it right…most of the time!Try to help others when I can.
Anyways been a Ubuntu user since 2007 and started using it full time with Lucid and then took a break with the Unity dt but once Mate became an official flavour I haven’t looked back.

Wild_Man good to see you.
How is the progress going on your end, with the shift to here?
I switched over here a bit early I guess. Still trying to figure out the layout on this site and how to navigate it. That is just conversation, not a complaint or criticism. Glad to see progress and testing on the objective of the migration.

Hello sgt-mike everything is actually progressing nicely and I am not having really any trouble with the site or setting up the categories after some tutoralish and studying.

Thanks @Wild_Man and @sgt-mike

I am glad you took my invitation and joined us here, it is an exciting new beginning.

Rick good to see you as well.
Since we last spoke I had a Windows box go down (motherboard died) got it back up (by replacing it with a MSI Gaming5 board, atx format vs the old mini atx). That cause me to place a spare board/cpu/Ram on the shelf, just for such events.
Picked up a case to use as a disk array for the NFS. Now to slowly configure it and populate it with drives. Looks like I’ll be able to get 24 SAS drives (3.5" format) in the full tower PC case to augment the organic drive space storage of the NFS.

Hi @Wild_Man, thanks re: our PM exchange :slightly_smiling_face:

Same here.

To have a medium to practice with and help wrap my head around it all, would it be ok if I already ask a support question in this section, even though it’s not really live yet?

Absolutely go for it,

You needn’t think you’re the only ones needing to figure things out…

It’s a bit of a journey, and there is the occasional speed bump in the road, but we’ll get there.
