You probably are aware by now, of the mid-life crisis the Ubuntu MATE project is undergoing, and I don’t regurgitate those issues here. Following Martin Wimpress’ stepping down from the Ubuntu MATE project and subsequent announcement here 
, some of us have volunteered to help with the project 
.
As it stands today, the following are the Ubuntu MATE Reboot members 
:
- Victor Kareh (@vkareh, https://launchpad.net/~vkareh ): upstream MATE developer.
- Mbkma (@mbkma, https://launchpad.net/~mbkma ): upstream MATE developer.
- Tomasz Jeruzalski (@tomekdev, https://launchpad.net/~tomekdev ): Ubuntu Unity maintainer helping with Ubuntu MATE. Also, a full-stack dev.
- Sui Vue (@suivue, https://launchpad.net/~suivue ): a passionate UbuntuMATE user who feels morally obligated to help the project in this critical phase. Interests: Packaging (esp ones which are UM-specific).
Being part of the larger Ubuntu family, we are also receiving assistance and guidance from other flavors and core teams 
.
Please note, we are not an elected/selected team; we are just volunteers currently working on reviving the project. Anybody who wants to help the project, in any way possible, is welcome to join us 
. Our development discussions are happening in the Ubuntu MATE Development matrix room.
You may be interested in knowing the current state, future plans and general direction and long term sustenance of the project. While I cannot speak to the future, I can share current status and immediate focus: Our primary focus now is to have a (solid) Ubuntu-MATE “Stonking Stingray” (26.10) release.
To that end, we are working to:
- Get the daily ISO builds working again (daily ISO builds were failing since March of this year, part of the reason we missed LTS release). Status: Fixed.
- Update MATE packages to their latest released versions. Needs coordination with Debian team. Status: In-progress Target: before feature-freeze
- Check and update QA tests. Status: In-progress. Target: before beta release phase.
- Other project related tasks (domain transfer/hosting access, updates to website, contributor management on launchpad etc.). Status: In-progress. Target: N/A.
We will keep you updated as we progress.
