Hello, bonjour

Bonjour,

Cordiales salutations.

For those who are not fluent in my beautiful native language:

Hello,

Who? My username is Fnux, a combination of my first name and Linux.

Where? I split my time between Florida and the sunny south of France, but always with a computer running several Linux distributions on a fast, high-capacity SSD (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, LMDE, Manjaro and occasionally others).

When? Tired of Windows’ recurring problems and disappointed by IBM’s abandonment of OS/2, I completely abandoned PCs for Apple machines running macOS in late 1998, then started using Linux in mid-1999 with Red Hat. I later adopted Ubuntu from version 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) and then all its sucessive LTS releases up to the current 26.04, as well as many other distributions.

What? Continue learning Linux, and Ubuntu in particular. Test and evaluate various free software, and occasionally participate in translating user messages related to these programs.

How? By agreeing to answer questions from someone who still considers himself a beginner and which may seem trivial to experts without systematically responding with laconic messages like “man is your friend” as is unfortunately the case on some forums that I will not name.

Thank you in advance for your acceptance.

Kind regards.

Great to have you here and what a wonderful story.

We look forward to your insights and contributions.

Was not my first install, that was Dapper Drake, but certainly to this day one of my favourites

Hi rubi1200,

Thank you for your welcome.

Regarding Ubuntu, I must admit I’m not a fan of its default GNU GUI and I primarly install and use Cinnamon, both on 24.04 and now 26.04, which led me to early adopt Linuxmint, LMDE and Manjaro, and to try ElementaryOS as well as Zorin OS for the fun of finding a macOS like desktop.

But that’s just a matter of personal preference, isn’t it?

Have a great day.
