I have had exactly this situation since Ubuntu Studio 22.04 LTS. I am now running Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS. Both were complete installations, not upgrades. I am now trying to upgrade to 26.04, so far without success (blank screen instead of login screen).
Moved to its own topic for better support.
Please provide specific and relevant details of what you have tried, what has worked, what has not.
Post error messages, logs etc.
Thanks
The OP isn’t very clear divorced from the thread where I originally posted it, nor is it clear that the symptoms described there have anything to do with my current startup problems in Ubuntu Studio 26.04 LTS
Both Ubuntu Studio 22.04 LTS and 24.04 LTS went on to start successfully, despite the briefly displayed message, “Failed To Open \EFI\ubuntu\ - Not Found”.
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS fails to start the GUI. I have gotten it to start at low resolution by editing the “Ubuntu” entry in GRUB and adding “nomodeset” to the line starting with “linux”. However, the resulting environment has “no available network connections”. Also, the update appears to have clobbered the computer’s domain membership.
The various fixes I found for the GRUB error haven’t eliminated it.
However, the urgent problem is the lack of networking. I have tried everything I could find to get the network up, but all interfaces remain stubbornly “unmanaged”.
A cold restart restored the correct monitor resolution.
After another cold restart, the network is now working. The fix was apparently to:
- remove all netplan yaml files
- remove all NetworkManager yaml files
- replace /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf with a rudimentary file consisting only of:
[main]
plugin=keyfile
[keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=none
[device]
managed=true
[connection]
ipv4.ipv6-privacy=0
Despite many attempts to reinitialize the network with commands like:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl start NetworkManager
sudo systemctl enable NetworkManager
nothing worked until after a cold restart.
The error message “Failed To Open \EFI\ubuntu\ - Not Found” on boot remains.
Things I have tried:
- copying /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi to /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT
- running “grub Update grub bootloader“ from the GRUB menu
Let’s start with some information gathering.
Please post the full output of this command:
lsblk -e 7
When you post back here click on </> in the composer and paste the output in the grey area before saving.
Using block quotes because I don’t find </> in the composer toolbar:
