Graphics Driver, Newest or Tested

Hi. I have an Nvidia GTX 1650 2GB. I was using the Nvidia driver 580-open in Additional Drivers, but switched to 590-open, as I thought games were supposed to be played on the most current driver. When I was using the 580, I saw that the OS listed the driver as the recommended version–I figure that this is because the 580 was listed as Tested, while the 590 was not. Should I stay with the most current 590, and figure the driver will reach the Tested status?

I read that 550 and 560 were preferred–Additional Drivers doesn’t list them; 570 it does, though?

Use what works for you, for your hardware, for your software.

You’ve just volunteered to be one of the testers.
Somebody needs to test it for it the reach that status and, as long as you don’t get inexplicably erratic system behavior, you should be alright. But you may also need to dig deep to even find if the Nvidia driver is the cause of issues, should they arise. If you’re not comfortable with that, just stick or revert to the tested one. Depending on the age of your hardware, there may not be any gains with a newer driver.

Update: Since this was just marked as the solution – thanks BTW :victory_hand: – I’ve found a minor but very relevant typo. You need to look out for erratic system (not just systemd) behavior. :innocent:
