The latest 51.0-2ubuntu1 which was just pushed out to ubuntu 26.10 testers will instantly crash and log me out of gnome when I launched either retroarch or virtualbox.
Neither of those were updated, it was the gnome related updates today.

The bug is about the whole desktop crashing at login, if you see an app crash that is likely something completely different and you should file a bug against that specific app instead
Iām having a similar problem with Chrome Deb and flatpak and Chromium Snap crashing the desktop back to the login screen not long after launch. I did some AI research and over on Matrix and tried a few different option that didnāt work. I then tried running Chrome in ācageā and that worked I was going to add to the bug report posed in this thread but it says it is a duplicate of this bug Bug #2168585 āDownstream patch st-cursor-Fall-back-to-Xcursor-if...ā : Bugs : gnome-shell package : Ubuntu so I posted it there.
I just installed the latest updates and at the same time I came across this thread. I had issues when watching you tube videos from chromium based deb browsers: the whole desktop was crushing by exiting to the login screen. It seems that it is solved now.
edit: experimenting a little bit more it is night and day. No crushing, no small freezes while moving around desktop!
Just an update., I have just updated my system and can confirm that the cheshes triggered by running Chrome and Chromium have resolved. Everything is working again! I will update my comment on the bug.
Looks like there was a GNOME Shell regression in 51.0-2ubuntu1. There are reports of the whole Wayland session crashing with Chrome/Chromium and Steam, and people were getting kicked back to the login screen. The same update also seems to affect other apps, so I wouldnāt start troubleshooting the individual programs first.
There is already a 51.0-2ubuntu2 build available, so Iād update GNOME Shell and reboot first. A few people in the thread have reported that the crashes stopped after the newer update.
