Fresh install on laptop, screen blank unless actively moving mouse

Ubuntu Version:
Tried 22.04.5, 24.04.2 & 25.04

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
Wayland

Problem Description:
I’m attempting to install on a HP x360 Spectre laptop, which was working fine running Windows. The screen resolution of the in-built display is fairly high at 2560x1440 and the graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 520.
During the install, after a minute of so of the screen working within the installer (e.g. at the language choice screen), the screen images shifts slightly to the right (the right 1" of screen is shown on the left hand side) and then milliseconds later goes blank. The backlight is still on but otherwise the screen is clear, not even the mouse cursor shows. If I then move the mouse using the trackpad, the screen will go back to normal, but as soon as I stop moving it, the screen disappears once more. This continues until I reboot, at which point it’s initially fine again initially, before repeating.

What I’ve Tried:
I’ve tried reducing the resolution, which seems to make it stable for longer, but the issue returns, just after what appears to be a slightly longer time.
I’ve set the nomodeset in grub and that does seem to help during boot, but once the Desktop environment is running, the issue returns.
I’ve plugged in an external monitor and that doesn’t appear affected.
If I complete the install process, the issue still occurs after boot.
The only way I’ve been able to get a working screen is to boot into recovery mode and then ‘Resume normal boot’. The screen then works fine at the max resolution, but there’s no access to change the screen brightness.
I’ve tried numerous versions of Ubuntu, and even Almalinux 9.5, the issue occurs on all of them, so I’m loosing faith that this issue will be solvable.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get the laptop screen working reliably?

Please be gentle, this is my first time handling hardware issues within Linux
