Hello everybody,

It’s time for a weekly update from Foundations :sparkles:

Please, post your updates. Thanks!

  • Continue fixing up devpack-for-rust – this week I am focusing on getting it to run more cross-platform
  • Finishing up some stuff from my +1 maintenance shift

Rust Toolchain

Toolchains

  • Assistance with Rust backport automation
  • General toolchains bug cleanup
  • Started work on CVE-2026-5223 and CVE-2026-5222
  • rust-defaults transition
  • llvm-defaults transition

Miscellaneous

  • “Hello, Rust!” Rust crate packaging tutorial documentation for Ubuntu

RISC-V

Toolchains

  • Learning about backporting LLVM
  • Poking around the docs and past issues

Misc

  • Improving automation for team synchronization between Launchpad and GitHub

Testing

  • Currently working on enabling automated Raspi HW testing on our Jenkins instance
  • Added this patch to ubuntu-cdimage where failed builds still get published to stale images on Test Observer cluttering Mission Control

Docs

  • Opened this PR to help improve the MIR reporter template clarity as part of the doc week

Late to the party:

openjdk:

distro:

  • patch pilot shift / a number of sponsorships
  • preparing FFe template page for Ubuntu documentation

Documentation

  • Mostly “Docs Week”-related stuff: PR reviews, lots of Mattermost, and keeping an eye on Jira.

  • Model comparison tool for quick biggest-bang-for-buck selection: model-compare — best value-for-money LLMs.

  • Work on integrating model-compare to in-house agent-provisioning tool.

  • Charming ReadTheDocs for documentation self-hosting PoC (bit of a nightmare, but possible, apparently – though with too many constraints).
