Interesting, but I would add one practical caveat: on phones the desktop environment is usually the easy part, the awkward bits are input scaling, file access, and whether the container/proot setup gets any useful graphics acceleration. MATE is a sensible choice because it is light and not too tied to a modern GPU stack. For anything beyond tinkering I would also document exactly which Android device/kernel and display server path is being used, otherwise the same steps can behave very differently on another phone.
