I Have An Dell G15 5520, recently I have installed Ubuntu 24.04, and noticed that “Fans are not spinning at all”. I have Tried Many ways but the system just dosen’t shows up any fan setting. Used many softwares, but none of them seemed to help. I am new to Linux and don’t know much about it. In bios I have tried to set fans speed to Performance Mode, but it did not seem to help. Please help me to solve this issue.
As always, update firmware (UEFI). Troubleshoot from there.
Also make sure you have the correct Nvidia driver installed as mentioned. It should be 580-open at the time of this writing.
I Have Discoverd By Manually Opening The Laptop That Fans Only Start Under Load Or When CPU or GPU Reachers above 70C. Its a shame that Dell dosen’t provide any fan controls for the machine. Those Fans Will Only Spun UP when the machine is under heavy load. Linux do detects the fans, however due to bios security, you cannot control fans manually. I would suggest to use a cooling pad underneath it. The laptop works completley fine and more snappy in Ubuntu.
Thanks for replying to my questions. I appriciate it.
Yes after updating the frimware to latest verison 1.37 as you mentioned, it worked fine, it did not shuts itself off and then only I have opened the laptop and check, whether fans are working or not.
