I have just read your Introductions topic. So, you will understand when I say: I am not from the internet but from humanity. I need words.

At what point during the installation does that Something Went Wrong dialog appear? Did you get the Try/Live session to load?

What options did you choose for installing? If I remember correctly we enter some user information before we get to the Try/Live session desktop. When you choose to install did you choose the Interactive option? It might also be called Manual.

So, at what point in the installation process does something go wrong.

Regards - And welcome

My memory only goes back to ubuntu 14.0 experiments .. probably same generation .. I use rEFInd for my dual booting .. I confess I do not understand /target/boot/efi setting .. my gparted simply shows /boot/efi

We need more details. But I can only guess that maybe some download failed; hard to tell from what little info we have. So I hazard the guess that you chose an “online” installation, in which the installer downloads updated versions of packages, if the are newer than on the install medium. But, recently there seem to be some infrastructure woes, so downloads may be dodgy.
