My laptop has an Elan touchpad and my mouse is a very old USB optical mouse. I do not experience any problems using either of them on Wayland. Actually, it would be more accurate to say on Mutter. The Gnome organisation provides Mutter as its Wayland compliant display server.
I have not run Ubuntu on Xorg for years. I advise you to get use to using Ubuntu with the Mutter Wayland compliant compositor. Gnome has already dropped the X server from Gnome versions later than Gnome 46. Ubuntu has to keep up. In fact the X Server is not available by default in Ubuntu 25.10. So, if you move on to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS you will have to install it yourself.
