I’m looking forward to volunteering at the Edinburgh Linux Café Install Party on Saturday, 18 July 2026, from 13:00–16:00. I would really appreciate it, if you wonderful people could repost this to let as many peopple as possible know about the event.
If you’ve been wondering what to do with a PC or laptop that won’t officially support Windows 11, this is a great opportunity to explore an alternative before considering replacing perfectly good hardware.

Edinburgh Linux Café is run by a group of volunteers, in partnership with Edinburgh Tool Library. Their aim is to help people save money and reduce electronic waste by giving perfectly good computers a new lease of life, rather than seeing them replaced simply because Windows 10 is reaching the end of support.
The volunteers can help you:
Try Linux Mint without installing anything on your computer.
Install Linux Mint if you decide it’s right for you.
Install your favourite software and show you how to keep it updated.
As an Ubuntu community member, I’m always happy to support events like this. While the install party focuses on Linux Mint, the broader Linux and Free & Open Source Software community is built on collaboration, shared knowledge, and helping people make informed choices about the software they use.
If you’re in or around Edinburgh and have an older laptop that’s still perfectly functional but isn’t supported by Windows 11, why not come along, ask questions, and see what’s possible? Even if you decide not to install Linux, you can still try it out, learn more about it, and chat with experienced volunteers.
