Hi I am new to Ubuntu, having run the desktop I have bought a Blackview MP20 Mini PC to run Server. As a newbie (ish) to Ubuntu and Linux in general, is there any value in setting up Ubuntu Server to dual boot with Windows 11 on the Blackview. My initial thoughts are to wipe Windows and just have Ubuntu Server running as the machine only has a 512 Mb hardrive which will be supplemented with a 2 Tb portable harddrive. is there any advantages to a dual boot on a pc that is intended to run Ubuntu Server & MySQL ?
If you intend to use the machine running Ubuntu Server there is no reason to dual boot with Windows unless you intend to run something in particular under Windows.
Thanks leok, it was my original intention, just wondered if there was a possible reason to keep Windows on the machine, but having thought further if Ubuntu Server was to dramatically fail, I am guessing it couldn’t be resuscitated via Windows any, which would be the only benefit I could think of if it was possible.
Right onwards & upwards with the Server install & confuguration.
I would suggest to run WSL; so you may get both world running simultaneously, unless you do need something require direct hardware feature (qemu for example) or if you have extra machine to play with.
No harm with WSL, you can use Ubuntu as server view (command lines) and run it as server on top Windows and you have GUI that you familiar with - or full install Ubuntu and run it as localhost.
Thank you for the suggestion jipangmenjerit, however as I have a work laptop (our own business) with Windows 11 a Microsoft Surface Pro and a dual boot Windows 11 / Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS I am covered for any Windows necessary applications.
