Ubuntu Version
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Flavors
Desktop Environment (if applicable)
XFCE
Problem Description
Recently double-click has stopped working as expected on my Xubuntu 24.04 desktop - double-clicking on icons and folders does not open them, and double clicking a word in text does not select the whole word. However, this behaviour only affects some parts of the system.
Double-click no longer works in the following apps / scenarios:
- Thunar
- Selecting a file in the chooser interface (e.g. when uploading in a browser)
- Terminal (xfce4-terminal)
- gedit
- Desktop icons
It does work in other apps / scenarios, such as:
- Double-clicking a word highlights the whole word in Firefox and LibreOffice
- Double-clicking works as expected within a Lubuntu VM that I am running on the Xubuntu host
I have not deliberately changed any settings, and I do not intentionally use any accessibility features.
The only thing I can think of is that I have accidentally pressed a keyboard combination that has somehow changed the settings, but I cannot work out what this could be.
Is there any way to find out what is causing the issue and restore the original behaviour? I did not realise how much I relied on double-click working until it stopped.
What I’ve Tried
- Opened the Accessibility app - everything is unchecked
- Opened the Mouse & Touchpad app - double-click time is set to 400ms and this is the same as another Xubuntu 24.04 installation (where double-click works as expected)
- Rebooted
- Waited over a week in case a software update had caused the issue and a fix was released
- Tried several different mice, including wireless and wired - behaviour is the same on all
- Tried plugging mice into different USB ports - behaviour is the same on all
- Tried my Xubuntu 24.04 laptop - this works as expected
