Codename: questing

GNOME Shell 49.0

Problem Description:
I have a single gnome dock location only on my primary display. When I move an app window from the primary display to a secondary display the window reference in the “All Windows” section of docked app launcher is lost.
If I subsequently minimize the window on the secondary display I can not get it back. I can see a running process but I don’t know how to reactivate it.
I have a video recording of me moving a chrome browser window just across the display threshold. There is a little red dot for each of the windows the launcher knows about. When I move the window just out of the primary the dot disappears. When I move it back, it reappears.

Steps:

  • On primary display, launch app using docked launcher.
→ app is launched on primary display
→ red dot is seen to left of app launcher
  • right click app launcher to get menu
→ app window is listed in “All Windows” list
  • drag app window out of primary display to adjacent 2nd display
    → red dot disappears
  • right click app launcher to get menu
    → if this was the only window there is no “All Windows” category in the menu;
if there was another window on the primary display it will appear in “All Windows” list but
the window moved to the 2nd display is no longer listed.
  • minimize window on 2nd display
→ there is no reference on launcher for me to “unminimize” the window so the window is lost.
→ $ ps -elf | grep shows window still active someplace
