I’m experiencing an issue with my Dell U2725QE (via HDMI) monitor and RTX5090 on Ubuntu 25.10 using driver version 580.95.05 (I installed it using the Ubuntu’s Additional Drivers app).
My display settings (resolution, refresh rate, etc.) appear to save correctly, but they are lost after every reboot. After restarting, I either have to manually reapply the settings or turn the monitor off and on again to restore them. I also have a second monitor connected but turning this one off and on again does not help. (Which leads me to believe it is an issue with my u2725qe an the 4k 120hz)
The weird thing is, that the problem only occurs when the refresh rate is set to 60+ FPS (Display supports native 120Hz). I’ve already tried reinstalling the driver and even performed a clean reinstall of Ubuntu, but the issue persists. This behavior only started after the latest driver update. One thing I also found is that when I start the pc the maximum refrashe rate reported & supported is 60hz.
I also already took a look at the EDID file reported to the OS which looks normal and the same (turn off vs turn on again). Dell programmed the EDID for the U2725QE so that it’s prefered mode is 60hz not 120hz. Furthermore another thing I noticed is that the tipical 1 second black screen pause after login does also not happen if I select 120hz.
I now suspect that the monitor.xml file is not loaded correctly due to the ubuntu, gnome or gdm thinking that the display does not support the full 120hz when in fact it does.
