- CUPS Snap: Waiting for the completion of the
cups
printing interface by the snapd developers. The missing mDNS host name lookup in core20 is fixed now. Tested a sample core20 and later core20 from the edge channel. Now everything works as expected. Thanks @jamesh and @xnox. - cups-filters: Clean-up of PPD file generators (for creating CUPS queue to driverless IPP printer) in cups-filters 2.0.x: Removed duplicate incarnation in libppd, renamed API functions, improved handling of human-readable strings.
- ipp-usb: Upstream author Alexander Pevzner and CUPS author Michael Sweet are working out communication between ipp-usb and the USB backend of CUPS so that the user can also easily opt for the classic driver when a printer supports IPP-over-USB driverless operation. This solves a problem many users reported bugs about.
- GNOME: Started discussion about a new GNOME Control Center module to access network devices, especially printers. A student candidate for GSoC 2021 will work on this and already suggested it to GNOME upstream.
- PAPPL: Posted a feature request for an API function which determines A4/Letter default for user’s location (currently open and closed issues of PAPPL).
- Google Summer of Code 2021: Collected slot count requests from the LF sub-groups to find out about the total of student slots to request for the Linux Foundation from Google. Deadline for requesting the slots is today, Google will tell us how many we actually get on May 5.
- Annual OpenPrinting Summit/PWG Meeting 2021: For the (virtual) meeting on May 4-7 prepared the slides, about the PostScript Printer Application and about cups-filters, the CUPS Snap, ipp-usb, driverless scanning, …
