Problem Description

So, I was supposed to receive this laptop today but apparently there is a carrier delay until next Tuesday. This is a new laptop by Dell being brought to market for students with a budget and competes with the MacBook Neo. I plan to wipe the SSD and installl Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS on it; however, I have watched some YouTube videos and those content creators state that the audio chipset might not be supported. If this is true, how do I download the Linux driver for Cirrus Logic CS42L43, in particular the Waves MaxxAudio 13 product driver? Or do I just wait out until Ubuntu 26.04.2 LTS has a newer kernel that supports the audio chipset?

What usually happens in a situation like this where a well-known brand such as Dell of whom supports Linux releases a new laptop and as a tech consumer installs Ubuntu?

Before installing Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, I would recommend that you take an image of the existing OS (using Clonezilla or similar)

Often the best approach.
In the meantime, purchase a cheap ‘n’ cheerful USB sound card for temporary use.

Dell explicitly supports Ubuntu, but not on all of their devices. It’s a bit late now for you probably, but for future, when you purchase a computer from Dell, choose one with Ubuntu preinstalled. That’s what I did for my current computer, and it guarantees that it’s Ubuntu-compatible.

I finally received my Dell XPS 13 DX13260 and installed Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS on it right away. It seems the Wi-Fi drivers are not included for this laptop so I used a RJ-45 USB-C dongle instead. Anyhow the laptop seems to working quite well with a few operating system exceptions. These exceptions include “Airplane Mode” functioning in conjunction with “Bluetooth”. This laptop is not officially supported yet but I hope it does as Ubuntu will be the main O/S. Also, the “Ubuntu App Center” seems to be malfunctioning since I cannot update any software from this app.

All in all, it looks good!

Check if Dell has firmware updates for the machine. If so, it might help.

The following three commands should find and install firmware:

fwupdmgr refresh
fwupdmgr get-updates
sudo fwupdmgr update
