Dell Precision 5690 camera not found

Well, it is nice to see “Success!” under the camera test, but the screen is black.

If the USB one is unplugged, and also Cheese gives black screen with the integrated one, this may really be a case for Dell.

Check regularly the updates, just in case

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

and if there are residues to be removed from what we did

sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove
reboot

Good luck! @mberkan

Finally I did it! :heart_eyes:

My configuration is:

Thank you all for your help :handshake:

@mberkan Yeees! Well done! :star_struck:
You are welcome!

I am having the same issue on the same laptop as you and still cannot make the camera work. Can you tell me what is the kernel that you are using? Paste the output from:

uname -a

@slaff2 ,

My configuration is:

uname -a
Linux mberkan-lap3 6.11.0-18-generic #18-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Feb  7 22:34:25 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Unfortunately, I announced my success in launching the camera in my Dell Precision 5690 laptop too early :sob: :

After using the camera for a few days, I noticed that after a few uses, it stopped working, and the problem was solved only by restarting the laptop.

I managed to reproduce such a problem and recorded a video that shows it at 1:13:

https://youtu.be/YtsMxvgy3Ag

I am using the command gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src device=/dev/video0 ! xvimagesink and the Google Meet app in Firefox to test the camera. Before the error occurred, you can see that the camera works in both programs, after the error occurs, it no longer works in either.

In the background, you can see the logs from /var/log/syslog, when the launch attempt fails, the following errors appear:

Hi @mberkan I am sad to read that. Have you tried purging again the ipu6 modules and reinstalling?
Test the camera here: https://mozilla.github.io/webrtc-landing/gum_test.html

No, I haven’t tried reinstalling the drivers. After the problem occurred, I didn’t check using this page, only using gst-launch-1.0. I’ll check it again.

I updated the drivers again but the problem is still not solved.

Sometimes the camera does not turn on. Or sometimes the camera turns on, but when I start Google Meet in the browser, the image freezes and the diode indicating the camera is still on despite closing the Google Meet website or even the entire browser, and only restarting the computer turns off this diode and restores the camera to work.

The camera’s operation is so unreliable that I have stopped counting on it, because I am already ashamed to explain during online meetings that I have some problems with it.

I think that the thread can be closed with the conclusion that Ubuntu is not recommended for the Precision 5690 laptop. If I had to decide now to buy a new laptop, I would choose MacBook, unfortunately :frowning:
