Day 1 at FOSSASIA Summit 2025: Ubuntu Booth Highlights
What an incredible start to the FOSSASIA Summit 2025 here in Bangkok! Our Orange booth has been buzzing with energy, curiosity, and insightful conversations. Here’s a recap of our first day:
Booth Setup and Engagements
We kicked off the day by setting up our booth, showcasing the versatility and robustness of Ubuntu across various platforms. The influx of attendees from diverse backgrounds led to enriching interactions, with many expressing keen interest in Ubuntu’s applications.
Top Questions from Attendees
- What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is a widely-used, Linux-based operating system renowned for its user-friendliness and adaptability. It powers desktops, servers, cloud infrastructures, embedded devices, and IoT applications.
- What’s better in snaps than in Debs?
Snap is a strictly confined packaging format independent of the distro version or release. The same snap can be easily used in Ubuntu 24.10 and Manjaro or any other distro. One can easily control the permissions also easily a snapped app has both via GUI and CLI.
- What version of Ubuntu does Ubuntu Touch use, and if it supports snaps?
Ubuntu Touch by The UBports Foundation is still on 20.04 and the support for snaps is ongoing.

Ubuntu Touch Phones: Attendees were captivated by the Ubuntu Touch phones presented by the UBports project. Discussions revolved around their compatibility with various OEMs and how others are getting helped by the project.

Jupiter Robot: I met Jerry from Jupiter Robot, who was using Ubuntu 18.04 for their vision based robotics project! Sharing the snaps of that too.

The IO Foundation Collaboration: Positioned opposite our booth, The IO Foundation showcased their project running on Ubuntu. I assisted them in setting up Docker, exemplifying the collaborative spirit of the open-source community. Ratchanan Srirattanamet helped them with their wifi connections.
Got the chance to reconnect with my old friends Sudip Mukherjee and Ananthu C V and many others. Engaging with professionals from various countries and sectors enriched our experience and broadened our perspectives.
Looking Ahead
The success of Day 1 has set a positive tone for the remainder of the summit. We’re eager to continue these meaningful interactions, share knowledge, and further the reach of Ubuntu in diverse applications.
