Connecting an Xbox Series X Controller Wirelessly to Ubuntu

Ubuntu Version: 22.04.5 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable): GNOME 42.9

Problem Description:

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to connect a brand new Xbox Series X Wireless Controller to a Linux computer at work, and Bluetooth just doesn’t seem to want to find it. I’ve consulted with ChatGPT and searched online for some tips, but I’m feeling a little lost and could use the help if anyone of you have managed to connect one wirelessly yourselves.

I’ve already connected the controller to a Windows PC and updated the firmware. It can connect to Windows via USB and via Bluetooth. It can also connect to Linux via USB just fine (and it receives button inputs and all that). For connecting to it via Bluetooth, I’ve installed the xone driver. On the controller I’ve wiped any old pairings and put it into pairing mode and switched on bluetoothctl scanning, and it doesn’t seem to want to pop up. What could I be missing?

I’m also wondering if I need to get a dongle, and if so, which one would work with Linux and with this model of controller. Any answers or assistance you can give would be much appreciated.
