(@ilvipero ) Chaired Communications Council Meeting 2025-4-16
-
(@Wild_Man) gives an update on what to do with Ubuntu Forum Members who received their Ubuntu Membership through the Ubuntu forums.
- Merging forum members with standard membership approved by Ubuntu Membership Board. (@aaronprisk) is going to contact launchpad people to try to get (@Wild_Man ) permissions to email all Ubuntu Forum Members at once because there is a limit of three at a time due to spammers. After all Ubuntu Forum Members have been contacted the merger will take place.
-
(@irihapeti) Asked should there be a shared document to outline what needs to happen to prevent people from losing access to their online accounts when they leave Canonical?
-
(@ilvipero ) There should be a way to manually log off people from Matrix when they are banned. This will make sure that banned users can no longer use the platform. There is a very low risk of this happening but it has the potential to be very disruptive.
-
Meeting reports to be posted on discourse to keep the community up to speed.
-
(@ilvipero) Mailing list retirement:
-
Old mailing lists to be retired due to old software, this should happen soon
-
Communications should be carefully crafted, posted on discourse and affected mailing lists, and encourage stakeholders to share with affected people by sharing the link to the discourse post. Ensure that the needs of the community are clearly taken into account.
-
After 25.04 release, (@ian-weisser ) will showcase the mailing list capabilities of discourse to Ubuntu developers which are still using mailing lists.
-
(@irihapeti ) upstarting a LoCo would require some coaching. There is an agreement that kindness is the way to go, but less experienced new LoCo organisers should not have to deal with a lot of bureaucracy involving getting the approval of previous organisers (when a LoCo has been inactive for years). Also, it needs to be clarified that LoCos can be modest affairs; there is no expectation to organise large events.
-
the topic of what to do when governance members are unable to participate, this topic is recommended to be brought up at the next governance sync meeting.
