Codenames page in the Wiki is very out of date

I thought it might be good practice to update this page, since it stops at 23.10…

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames

But I can’t, as it’s immutable.

Any particular reason?

Suggestion: move the old proposals to a sub-page and keep this one updated with the established names?

The wiki is somewhat deprecated, with many active users of the site moved elsewhere, eg. as I work with the Ubuntu News team, and we published to the wiki (up to issue 809), we were asked to move here; so we publish here now.

The page you reference is actually immutable until you login, assuming you’ve got the rights to edit pages.

Some pages are still updated though; eg. Releases - Ubuntu Wiki would be useful if people needed codenames (lots of releases & pages make reference to that page, so its kept updated)

This is my understanding anyway.

  1. I did log in. It is still immutable.
  2. This is not a question about news. The page I linked to is the one I get when Googling “ubuntu codenames” and it’s hosted on ubuntu.com which means it looks official, to me and to search engines.

My point here is not whether it’s the right place; it’s the place that Google finds. Therefore IMHO it should be current and accurate. As it is, it’s a bit big to edit, but the discussion could just be moved.

I provided a link to the rights required; ie. your launchpad profile requires you to be a wiki-editor, for edit functions to be offered.

If you’d like to edit it, the source code for the page can be viewed here, as I am a wiki editor I can paste an updated version (assuming it looks good to me of course) and credit you in the edit reason.

My intention in mentioning news was as example; ie. the wiki maybe shutdown in the future, so users/details are being taken away from it (why spend effort on something that may disappear).

[ If interested in editing the page, save & edit a copy of the moinmoin ‘code’, then you can provide a pastebin link on this thread with the updated version you’d like me to save to that page; if you’re not a wiki editor & would like to update it ]

Over the years, the Wiki has been subjected to numerous vandalism and spam attacks.
Too few volunteers have offered to tediously revert those malicious, bot-made changes.
So it’s locked down.

If an occasional volunteer wants to do nothing more than get wiki edit permission and keep that page current, that’s a worthwhile contribution to Ubuntu.

Speaking as someone who knows @lproven personally (met many times at Ubuntu Summit over the years), and since he has sought Ubuntu Membership in the past, I can say that this is an excellent way for him to contribute, and that he would do a fantastic job at that!

The point-of-contact for the wiki editors would be @ilvipero . I don’t think he would hesitate to grant wiki editing access in this case.
