Although I currently coordinate the active Ubuntu Cameroon community, I have selected “Prospective leader” because I do not have ownership or administrative access to the existing LoCo infrastructure.

The most urgent requirements are administrative access to the Ubuntu Cameroon Launchpad team, the ubuntu-cm.org domain and DNS configuration, and the official mailing list.

The domain is not currently serving an active Ubuntu Cameroon website. When accessed, it has redirected or resolved inconsistently to either the Launchpad Blog or the legacy CameroonianTeam Ubuntu Wiki page. The current community leadership has no access to correct this configuration.

A request concerning the domain and DNS was submitted through Canonical’s RT system as ticket #88351, opened on 25 March 2026.

Recovering these resources will allow us to restore the official Ubuntu Cameroon website and email addresses and manage community communications, registrations, partnerships and reports transparently.

Details for Ownership handover request

If you are one of the prospective leaders, have you tried to reach out to the current leaders? Did they respond to your contact?

Yes. Since March 2026, I have repeatedly attempted to contact the current administrators through their available email addresses and the Ubuntu Cameroon mailing list.

I have not received a response through either direct email or the mailing list, and I have therefore been unable to obtain access to the Launchpad team, domain, DNS configuration, mailing list or other legacy LoCo resources.

The existing administrators do not appear to be actively managing the LoCo or responding through its established communication channels. Meanwhile, the current community team has been rebuilding Ubuntu Cameroon and organising new activities without access to the official infrastructure.

If you are one of the prospective leaders, and were not able to get any response from current leaders, are there any other ways of communication you would like to suggest?

I would appreciate the LoCo Council’s assistance in contacting the current owners and administrators through the email addresses associated with their Launchpad and Ubuntu accounts.

The LoCo Council may also contact the relevant Canonical infrastructure teams responsible for ubuntu-cm.org, its DNS configuration and the Ubuntu mailing-list infrastructure. Canonical RT ticket #88351 may provide additional context about the domain-recovery request submitted in March 2026.

Does current leaders agrees to handover LoCo to prospective leaders?

I have been unable to obtain a response from the current administrators since March 2026. Therefore, I cannot confirm whether they agree to the handover.

This request is not intended to displace anyone who is actively contributing to Ubuntu Cameroon. Its purpose is to place the LoCo and its infrastructure under the care of the team that is currently rebuilding and coordinating the community.

If the LoCo Council succeeds in reaching the current owners, I would welcome their formal response and cooperation with the handover process.

During the past six months, I have been coordinating the revitalisation of Ubuntu Cameroon and working with volunteers to rebuild its organisational structure, community presence and event programme.

UbuCon Cameroon 2026 planning

Ubuntu Cameroon initiated and promoted preparations for UbuCon Cameroon 2026. The work included programme development, speaker outreach, calls for proposals, sponsorship outreach, volunteer coordination and community mobilisation.

Community rebuilding

We have also been working on:

  • Rebuilding the Ubuntu Cameroon leadership and volunteer structure
  • Developing governance, partnership and accountability procedures
  • Onboarding students, developers and open-source enthusiasts
  • Rebuilding the community’s public communications and social-media presence
  • Preparing Ubuntu workshops, install parties, release events and community meetups
  • Establishing relationships with universities and other technology communities in Cameroon
  • Preparing an annual programme and budget for sustainable community activities

The lack of access to the official domain, mailing list and Launchpad team has prevented us from consolidating these activities under the recognised Ubuntu Cameroon infrastructure.

Our first priority is to complete the handover and restore Ubuntu Cameroon’s official infrastructure. After access has been recovered, we plan to:

  1. Restore and correctly configure ubuntu-cm.org and its DNS records.
  2. Restore the official Ubuntu Cameroon email addresses and mailing list.
  3. Update the Launchpad team’s ownership, membership and public information.
  4. Review and update the Ubuntu Cameroon Discourse category.
  5. Restore or establish the official Matrix and IRC communication channels.
  6. Appoint additional administrators so that resources are never controlled by only one person.
  7. Establish documented governance, access and leadership-succession procedures.
  8. Publish regular meeting notes, activity reports and financial reports.
  9. Recruit and onboard more Ubuntu contributors throughout Cameroon.

Proposed 2027 programme

Ubuntu Cameroon’s proposed 2027 activities include:

  • UbuCon Cameroon
  • Ubuntu Summit Extended Bamenda
  • Ubuntu release parties
  • Ubuntu install parties and technical-support sessions
  • Workshops on Ubuntu, Git, documentation and open-source contribution
  • Localisation and translation activities
  • University and student-community outreach
  • Joint events with developer and technology communities
  • Regular online meetings and contributor-onboarding sessions

Ubuntu Summit Extended Bamenda

After the DNS, website and mailing infrastructure have been restored, we plan to organise a one-day Ubuntu Summit Extended event in Bamenda for approximately 80–120 participants.

The event will bring together students, developers, educators, entrepreneurs and open-source enthusiasts. It will include selected Ubuntu Summit sessions, beginner-friendly Ubuntu installation support, practical contribution workshops, local project showcases and discussions about using open-source technologies to support education, entrepreneurship and digital inclusion in Cameroon.

Restoring the official LoCo infrastructure before the event will allow registrations, announcements, partnerships and post-event reporting to be managed transparently through recognised Ubuntu Cameroon channels.

Our long-term objective is to build a sustainable national Ubuntu community with shared leadership, transparent administration and clear pathways for Cameroonian contributors to participate in the wider Ubuntu project.
