ClamAV Detecting A Potential Virus on NotePad++ (WINE)

Hello All…I’m brand new to the Ubuntu Discourse, after recently installing Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS Desktop. Still configuring my Ubuntu environment, and in the process, I installed ClamAV (ClamAV 1.4.3/27712) and ran a virus scan on my home directory.

The scan results included 2 hits on my instance of Notepad++ version 8.7.4 that I installed via the App Center. The hits identified the kernel32.dll file located at:

~/snap/notepad-plus-plus/common/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/kernel32.dll
and
~/snap/notepad-plus-plus/common/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64/kernel32.dll

I checked these files with VirusTotal, and the file …/syswow64/kernel32.dll was identified as “Suspected Of Malware-Cryptor.FSP.gen”.

So, my questions are:

  1. Is ClamAV an acceptable virus scanner for Ubuntu 24.04?..and
  2. Can anyone recommend a reliable virus cleaner, or is the ClamAV Quarantine function good enough?

Many thanks, in advance, for any insights you might be able offer with this.
