Can't configure program starter after sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-session gdm3

My laptop hanged on boot at “started gdm-service.”
So I ran
sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-session gdm3.
Now the program starter panel is hidden and I don’t see how to configure it.
My system is Ubuntu 24.04 running on a Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 AMD.
Any help is appreciated.

Have you looked into the Extensions app? If you don’t have it, sudo apt install gnome-extensions-app
There will be a switch to enable the panel.
