Can Ubuntu contribute to make and old PC faster?

I’m entering the new world of Ubuntu right now and, hoping someone wanted to help me, I would have a question: imagining Ubuntu has a lighter SW system respect Windows, can Ubuntu be useful for giving a “new life” to an old PC (less bottleneck and stucks)? THANKS TO ALL - Michele

Only if it has a 64-bit processor. 32-bit processors were dropped long ago. If you need 32-bit then you can move upstream and use 32-bit Debian which works fine. I have an old ThinkPad T40 (2001 era) and it runs Debian 11.3 fine (use openbox the lowest resource desktop). Note web browsing is a bit slow.
