We are officially seeking nominations for a “Prime Session Speaker” for UbuCon Asia 2026 @ COSCUP.

In previous years, keynote speakers were typically selected from submitted session proposals or nominated by the Canonical Community team. This year, we want to open the floor to the community and invite you to help us identify the voices you want to hear on the main stage.

What is a Prime Session Speaker?

At COSCUP, a Prime Session is a high-profile, featured talk held on the Main Track. This is equivalent to a “Keynote” at other large conferences. Prime Sessions are unique because they are the only programs scheduled at that time, inviting the entire COSCUP audience to participate in a single, unified experience.

Since UbuCon Asia 2026 is co-hosted with COSCUP, we have collaborated with the COSCUP team to allocate a dedicated Prime Session slot for UbuCon Asia. While this role shares similarities with previous UbuCon Asia keynotes, the scale and impact are significantly larger, which is why we are conducting a careful, community-driven selection process.

  • Broad Reach: The selected speaker will address the entire COSCUP audience, which includes a diverse range of FOSS communities beyond just Ubuntu.
  • Massive Audience: While previous UbuCon Asia keynotes typically hosted 250–400 people, this session will reach 1,000–2,000 attendees.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a speaker who can:

  • Attend in person: Deliver the session on-site in Taipei (remote sessions or delegates are not eligible).
  • Inspire: Motivate both the Ubuntu community and the wider FOSS ecosystem.
  • Command a Large Stage: Feel comfortable addressing an audience of up to 2,000 people.
  • Focus on Community: Present Ubuntu from a FOSS and community project perspective, rather than a purely corporate or product-centric view.
  • Technical Depth: Deliver a session that highlights the technical side of the ecosystem.
  • Travel Freely: Be able to travel to Taipei, Taiwan, without significant visa or entry restrictions.
    • While we could ask the COSCUP team to provide visa support for the speaker, If the invited person has difficulties with preparing paperworks or getting the visa due to their status, this would be something difficult for us to handle.

  1. About You: Your name, a quick bio, and your involvement with Ubuntu.
  2. About the Nominee: Their name, biography, Launchpad profile, and involvement with Ubuntu.
  3. Rationale: Why do you believe this person should be the Prime Session speaker?
  4. Status: Have you already reached out to this person regarding the nomination?
  5. Topics: Are there specific topics you would like to hear them discuss?
  6. Contact Info: How can the organizers reach out to the nominee?

Deadline: We need to confirm the speaker by late April. Please submit your nominations by April 7th.
