Boxes: proceeding with a search result

25.04.

In Boxes:

  1. seek FreeBSD
  2. click FreeBSD 14.2 x86_64

Result:

  1. the list of operating systems, as if I escaped without clicking – FreeBSD is not in sight.

Am I missing something?

Side note: at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?advanced=1 I see no way to perform title-only searches.

Are you referring to GNOME Boxes?

You need to search then click then click again to start the download.

Mostly, I prefer finding torrents for the distro I want to test and then add in that way because from within Boxes it uses an ordinary http download.

Thanks.

Your second screenshot shows the item in sight.

In my case:

… not in sight.

I do not think you are missing anything: you have identified a flawed interface. Indeed, I can reproduce the inconsistent behavior you indicate. It is not possible to launch a download from within these search results.

I was able to launch the download…

Instead of searching, if you open Boxes and click to Download OS and scroll down through the results once they load: do you see the FreeBSD ISO icon?

The notebook that I used for the opening post has gone for write-off.

I can’t reproduce the originally reported issue with Boxes on Ubuntu as a VirtualBox guest.

@vanadium is the issue consistently reproducible for you?

On as second try: no. After searching and clicking an item in the search results, the item is “selected”, and may be displayed at the bottom of the list. I have the impression that, occasionally, that selected item is not in the viewport, but today, I cannot reproduce it.

For me currently, this is Boxes 48 in a default Fedora install.
