Blank Screen at Boot After Hard Shutdown, AMD GPU and 25.10

Ubuntu Version: 25.10

Desktop Environment (if applicable): GNOME

Problem Description:
No display after boot.

It began when I was watching a video on Freetube and accidentally pressed the space bar for a few seconds. The video got stuck alternating between pause and resume and my system became otherwise unresponsive, so I held down the power button for a hard reset.

After this, when I boot the system I have no display at all after the BIOS splash screen. I don’t think it’s a hardware failure as I booted into a CachyOS live USB with absolutely no issues.

I have a Timeshift backup and data backup, and the drive should be fine so it wouldn’t be catastrophic data loss, but I really want to fix this and not reinstall.

Relevant System Information:
GPU is AMD 7900 XTX

What I’ve Tried:
I was trying to troubleshoot with a chatbot and got as far as booting with the nomodeset parameter.

Before Posting:
I reviewed this thread from 17 days ago, similar but didn’t go anywhere.

I am generally available for a few days and would love some help troubleshooting and hopefully resolving this. I am missing out on a gaming sesh with friends as we speak.

Okay it’s mysteriously fixed! How do I mark solved? Scared the me last night after multiple reboots with no display.

You can mark your own reply as the solution if you consider the issue resolved (using the Mark as solution option).

For reference, I’ve personally encountered a very similar situation with an AMD RX 580. In my case, it wasn’t an Ubuntu issue at all, but a display cable / port problem (HDMI).
switching to a different port immediately fixed the blank screen after boot.

Since this is thankfully resolved, I will close the topic.
