Problem Description: I have a laptop with integrated graphics and a Nvidia dedicated graphics card (a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti). When I try to run games on an external monitor, the games sometimes won’t run, instead simply displaying a black screen and consuming much less GPU memory than expected.
What I’ve Tried: Using performance mode - games seem to work just fine, but programs like browsers start using GPU memory, which isn’t ideal.
I discovered what caused the problem - I’d set my external monitor as the primary monitor in my display settings. When I unticked the primary slider, now games seem to work again.
EDIT: Attempted to actually play some games after discovering I could get one to load, but now I’ve been experiencing freezes, sometimes while a game is still loading.
Switching to Plasma (Wayland) seems to have fixed it now, but I’ll wait a few days to call it a solution to avoid being premature.
