Ubuntu Version:
24.04.3 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
GNOME

Problem Description:
Ever since a recent (in the last 2 weeks) update, that I noticed included the nvidia driver, my dual-monitor screens show short (1/4 inch) horizontal lines, like random static, whenever the screen updates. For instance, if I add a line to a screen, but the overall screen doesn’t move or scroll, the artifacts only show up on the new line. If the whole screen updates, like on a graphical screen, the lines cover the screen, obscuring about 1-10% of the true pixels.

The short lines disappear when the mouse moves over them on a graphical screen, or after about 2 seconds, even if there’s no activity on the screen.

Perhaps unrelated to this, but occurring at the same time, my system no longer goes to sleep. The sleep setting is still at 15 minutes, but nothing happens; my screens will stay on and unlocked overnight, for instance.

Relevant System Information:
nvidia-smi shows Driver version 580.95.05 and CUDA version 13.0 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030.

Can’t take a screenshot because the artifacts disappear when the mouse is moved.

What I’ve Tried:
Nothing so far.

Can you tell me if this is the best place to post a request for help for this issue, and, if not, where would be a better place to ask for help with this problem?

You could check on the UbuntuMATE forum. There has been a lot of discussion there related to issues with the 580 drivers and how to circumvent/backtrack to resolve issues.


Beyond that, have you thought to check the Forums on the NVIDIA site itself?
