App center says i need to update a program when i click on it i get warning untrusted source

Ubuntu Version

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable)

GNOME

Problem Description

app center says i need to update a program when i click on it i get warning untrusted source…the program is 1:46.7-Oubuntu0.24.04.5 (right here there is an arrow pointing to the right that i do not know how to produce) 1:46.7-Oubuntu0.24.04.6
so i did not allow it to be installed. thought someone needs to know about the problem.

Seems this is a known bug, see here for some references.

You should be able to safely update via the terminal:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

The message should disappear and all packages will be safely upgraded.

ubuntu-one-sci; Hello -

As you posted inthe “Support and Help” section we can assume that you seek resolution.
To that end plase post back -between code tags- the outputs of terminl commands:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

1:46.7-Oubuntu0.24.04.6 is a version string and does not tell us anything about what package.

-help is what we do-

my-user-name@my-host:~$ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

Be patient and your turn will come.

i understand phasing. what concerned me was the warning that the app center gives me when i click on the update button. here is screen shot of the warning.

OH –

I am behind the times. In any event the behavior is a Work-In-Progress and intentional. As Rubi1200 points to above. popey in that topic post explanatory links.

-Ubuntu: we are all in this together-

The new App Center loves Snaps and gets paranoid about standard .deb packages without store metadata, showing that scary warning by default

Your log shows it is 100% official from noble-updates. Just a funny UI glitch!

nothing funny about it. untrusted source…failed authentication. ..fails to match hash…possibly malware due to compromised store.

Do not worry, this scary popup is a known App Center UI bug!
When App Center updates standard .deb packages through PackageKit, it does not check repository signatures properly and defaults to showing that “untrusted source” warning
Your terminal log already proved the package comes straight from noble-updates and is signed by Ubuntu. It is 100% safe to ignore the warning!

then it should say this program in in phasing check back in 48 hours

not set off all the security alarms. if everybody gets used to this then when the store does get compromised we all get screwed……boy who cried wolf!

This exact UX bug is tracked upstream here:

and the discussion around PR #1681:

The App Center team treated all .deb installs through PackageKit with the same generic “untrusted 3rd-party” warning instead of checking if the package comes from official Ubuntu archives. Your complaint is completely valid!
