I was wondering if there was an opportunity to flag or bug things in the App Center that were not functional or severely defective.
I recently reported the Obsidian snap as it breaks parts of your home folder when its uninstalled and it is not functional otherwise. I could only flag it for “breaks rules of the store”. It hasnt been updated since Feburary, so its unlikely to change anytime soon. Many users seem aware of this issue and it is a popular application.
I understand the maintenance of the application is on that particular snap maintainer but should the app center not offer options for defective programs? As a new user, I could be misled into getting things that are not functional through snap but otherwise functional on apt or flatpak. There is no user review system to really track anything.
I saw a similar thread from 2025. Is there opportunities to volunteer test some older snaps and just get visibility on what is ok?
As a user I would expect everything on the App Center to be functional, safe and up to date. Otherwise, I would expect it to be removed.
I was also interested in understanding how the App Center protects users from malware.
I hope there’s opportunties to help improve user experience!
Cheers,
Dani
