Antivirus in this situation?

Ubuntu Version:

Kubuntu 25.04

Desktop Environment (if applicable):

KDE

Problem Description:

I have two ssd, one with Kubuntu installed and the other with Windows. I know that antivirus isn't normally necessary for Linux, but in this case, I don't know if it might be necessary since I have another ssd with Windows. For now, all I've done is enable the firewall in Kubuntu.

I don’t really share many files between Linux and Windows.

Thank you very much.

Unless your sharing files between Ubuntu and Windows I wouldn’t worry about it.

The best antivirus is between the chair and the keyboard

Maybe share some text files, official .iso or similar, but little else.

I’m aware of this, especially considering Linux. But given the Windows factor, I have my doubts about it.

Are you the only user on the computer?

If you are only sharing a few things, as mentioned, from your Windows install to your Linux install then antivirus is unlikely to be needed.

Anyway, most so-called Linux antivirus solutions throw many false positives which confuses users even more.

If in doubt, you can always ask here but from what you have told us I do not think you need something like antivirus.

Yes, I’m the only user of the computer. I don’t download pirated software or anything like that. I keep everything up-to-date, so I don’t think an antivirus like ClamAV will be necessary, but I wanted to clear up the question.

Does anyone want or can contribute anything further on this topic? Thank you very much.

What doubts do you have that make you think you might need antivirus?

The only real question I might have would be having two SSDs, one with Windows and one with Kubuntu. Beyond that, it’s become clear to me that for a normal user, with reasonable use and common sense, AV isn’t necessary.

I would agree with your conclusion.

The fact that you have two SSDs is not an issue, in my opinion.
