A significant number of concurrent package updates caused our maximum available bandwidth to be exceeded, leading to a disruption in the Ubuntu archive. As of Friday 5 September 09:40 UTC, our internal teams have deployed mitigations for this issue. We know this is frustrating and are doing our best to resolve this. We have put the following mitigation measures in place to prevent this from happening:
- We have enabled throttling on some large downloads. That means that some packages will take a longer time to download, but you should not experience download failures.
- We have expedited the expansion of our global network capacity. Users should see benefits of this starting tomorrow.
- Users who need to update can enable downloads from one of Ubuntu’s global network of mirrors, Mirrors : Ubuntu. Please note that packages offered under Expanded Security Maintenance will always come from Canonical.
